Unfortunately its a hike in electric rates and not football.
Nationally, electric rates increase an average of 4% every year! Sometimes utilities and regulators will approve additional rate increases in specific areas. Recently, regulators and the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission (PUC), voted in favor of a new rate hike to take effect October 1, 2017. According to the PUC, this rate hike is due to a higher cost of energy which is then unfortunately passed down to the consumer in the form of higher electric bills. The cost of power to customers will increase from 6.3 cents to 9.2 cents per kWh.
National Grid consumers in Rhode Island can expect an increase in their monthly utility bill between 16 and 21 percent, which could increase the average bill from $168* to a whopping $230!
